levitra (vardenafil)

Information about the medicine Levitra:

You should carefully read this instruction of the medicine Levitra. This instruction describes the medicine Levitra in the pills dosage of 5, 10, 20 mg. You should consult your physician in the case you have some questions about this medicine.

The medicine Levitra. General information:

The medicine Levitra is prescribed for the treatment of male erectile dysfunction. The erectile dysfunction is the inability to get and to keep a constant erection during sexual intercourse. The active ingredient is Vardenafil.

Form of production and the ingredients of Levitra:

Levitra is produced in the form of film-coated tablets, one blister contains 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, 12 pills. One pill of Levitra contains the active ingredient Vardenafil of 5, 10 or 20 mg (vardenafil hydrochloride trihydrate)

Main features of Levitra and its impact on a man’s organism:

Levitra is an inhibitor of phosphodiesterase of 5th type (PDE5) and is used for the treatment of male erectile dysfunction, as was mentioned earlier. During the erection hemodynamic process occurs that relaxes the smooth muscle of cavernous bodies of a penis and arterioles in it. During sexual stimulation first wave of nitric oxide (NO) emission occurs from the cavernous bodies and cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) is increased. This is accompanied by muscle relaxation of cavernous bodies, and as result blood flow to the penis is increased. The function of Levitra (vardenafil) is blocking of PDE5, which split cGMP, during sexual stimulation endogenous NO in the cavernous bodies is increased and the drug increases the reaction to sexual stimulation.

Pharmacokinetics of Levitra:

The drug Levitra is absorbed quickly and, as a rule, the effect of the medicine begins in 15-25 minutes after taking, and the duration of effective action of the drug is 4-5 hours after taking. On the average the maximum effect Cmax is achieved in an hour (varies from 30 to 120 minutes). It should be noted that fatty food alters Cmax and the absorption rate of Levitra. Ordinary food does not reduce the pharmacokinetic properties of Vardenafil.

Mode of use and dose of Levitra:

Levtra is taken orally, regardless of meals. It is necessary sexual stimulation for the drug action. The recommended dose of 10 mg should be taken 25-60 minutes before the sexual intercourse in order Levitra will act. If this dose does not give the positive effect, it shall be increased to 20 milligram (as a rule such dose is prescribed at prostatectomy and diabetes). If the patient takes other medications dose of Levitra should be 2.5 - 5 mg. It is recommended the dose 5 milligrams to patients over 65 years of age. The doctor may increase the dose to the usual 10 mg, depending on individual tolerance and effectiveness of the drug Levitra. Also the recommended dose of the medicine of 5 mg should be prescribed to patients with moderate liver dysfunction. Do not take Levitra more than once a day. The maximum dose of Levitra is 20 mg per day.

Overdosage of Levitra:

It is known the case of once intake of Levitra in a dosage of 80 milligrams, but any side effects it did not cause. But twice daily intake of the medicine in dosage of 40 mg caused the clearly marked back pain. It is recommended symptomatic and supportive therapy in case of overdose.
